रामायण – विस्तृत कथा (हिंदी में)
जन्म और बाल्यकाल
अयोध्या नगरी के राजा दशरथ की तीन रानियाँ थीं – कौशल्या, कैकेयी और सुमित्रा। संतान न होने पर उन्होंने यज्ञ कराया। यज्ञफल से कौशल्या को राम, कैकेयी को भरत, और सुमित्रा को लक्ष्मण व शत्रुघ्न उत्पन्न हुए। चारों राजकुमार पराक्रमी और गुणवान थे। राम विशेष रूप से धर्म और करुणा में अद्वितीय थे।
राम और विश्वामित्र
एक दिन ऋषि विश्वामित्र राक्षसों से यज्ञ की रक्षा हेतु दशरथ से सहायता माँगने आए। राम और लक्ष्मण उनके साथ गए। वहाँ राम ने ताड़का और कई राक्षसों का संहार किया और ऋषि का यज्ञ पूर्ण कराया। इसी दौरान मिथिला में राजा जनक की सभा में राम ने शिवजी का धनुष तोड़कर सीता से विवाह किया। लक्ष्मण ने उर्मिला से, भरत ने मांडवी से और शत्रुघ्न ने श्रुतकीर्ति से विवाह किया।
वनवास
कुछ समय बाद दशरथ ने राम का राज्याभिषेक तय किया। किंतु कैकेयी को अपनी दासी मंथरा ने भरकाया और उसने दो वरदान माँगे – भरत को राजा बनाना और राम को 14 वर्षों का वनवास देना। दशरथ वचनबद्ध थे और दुखी होकर राम को वन जाने दिया। राम, सीता और लक्ष्मण वन में चले गए। दुःख से दशरथ का देहांत हो गया। भरत ने राजगद्दी स्वीकार नहीं की और राम की खड़ाऊ सिंहासन पर रख दी, स्वयं तपस्वी जीवन जीते हुए राम के लौटने की प्रतीक्षा करने लगे।
वन की घटनाएँ
वनवास के समय राम ने कई ऋषियों और जनजातियों की रक्षा की। पंचवटी में राक्षसी शूर्पणखा ने राम को विवाह प्रस्ताव दिया, असफल होने पर उसने सीता को अपमानित करने का प्रयास किया। क्रोधित लक्ष्मण ने उसकी नाक काट दी। उसने रावण को उकसाया। रावण ने मारीच को स्वर्ण मृग बनाकर सीता को छल से अलग किया और उनका हरण कर लंका ले गया।
सीता की खोज और हनुमान का पराक्रम
राम और लक्ष्मण सीता की खोज में सुग्रीव और हनुमान से मिले। राम ने सुग्रीव को बाली से मुक्ति दिलाई। फिर वानर सेना सीता की खोज में निकली। हनुमान ने समुद्र पार किया, लंका पहुँचकर अशोक वाटिका में सीता से मिले, उन्हें राम की अंगूठी दी और विश्वास दिलाया। लौटने से पहले उन्होंने लंका जलाकर रख दी।
लंका युद्ध
राम ने वानर सेना के साथ समुद्र पर सेतु (रामसेतु) बनाया और लंका पर चढ़ाई की। भीषण युद्ध हुआ। रावण के पुत्र इंद्रजीत और भाई कुम्भकर्ण ने वीरता दिखाई, किंतु अंततः उनका वध हुआ। राम और रावण का अंतिम युद्ध हुआ जिसमें राम ने ब्रह्मास्त्र से रावण का संहार किया।
छाया सीता का रहस्य और श्रीराम का राजतिलक
जब लंका का युद्ध समाप्त हुआ और रावण का अंत हो गया, तब प्रभु श्रीराम ने माता सीता को पुनः स्वीकार करने का समय आया। परंतु जो सीता लंका में रहीं, वे वास्तव में छाया सीता थीं। असली जनकनन्दिनी सीता तो सम्पूर्ण समय अग्निदेव की शरण में सुरक्षित थीं। जब यह दिव्य रहस्य प्रकट हुआ, तब स्वयं अग्निदेव ने माता सीता को भगवान राम को सौंप दिया। इस प्रकार उनकी पवित्रता और मर्यादा जगत के सामने प्रकट हुई। तत्पश्चात प्रभु श्रीराम, माता सीता और भ्राता लक्ष्मण अयोध्या पधारे, जहाँ नगरवासियों ने हर्ष और उल्लास से उनका भव्य स्वागत किया। और वहीं सम्पन्न हुआ श्रीराम का राजतिलक, जो युगों-युगों तक स्मरणीय बना।
रामराज्य
राम के राज्य में सब लोग सुखी और सुरक्षित थे। किसी को अन्याय का भय नहीं था। यही रामराज्य कहलाया – न्याय, धर्म और समृद्धि का युग।
Ramayan – Detailed Story (In English)
Birth and Childhood
In the prosperous city of Ayodhya lived King Dasharath with his three queens – Kaushalya, Kaikeyi, and Sumitra. Long childless, he performed a great sacrifice. From the divine offering were born four sons: Rama (to Kaushalya), Bharata (to Kaikeyi), and Lakshmana and Shatrughna (to Sumitra). All grew up brave, noble, and virtuous, but Rama shone as the embodiment of righteousness and compassion.
Rama and Sage Vishwamitra
One day, sage Vishwamitra sought Dasharath’s help to protect his sacrifice from demons. Rama and Lakshmana accompanied him. Rama destroyed the demoness Tataka and others, allowing the sage to complete his rituals. Later, in the kingdom of Mithila, Rama broke the mighty bow of Shiva and won the hand of Princess Sita. Lakshmana married Urmila, Bharata married Mandavi, and Shatrughna married Shrutakirti.
Exile
When Dasharath decided to crown Rama king, Kaikeyi, influenced by her maid Manthara, demanded two boons: that Bharata be crowned instead and Rama be sent into exile for fourteen years. Bound by his promise, Dasharath reluctantly agreed. Rama, ever obedient, departed with Sita and Lakshmana. Heartbroken, Dasharath soon passed away. Bharata, refusing the throne, placed Rama’s sandals on it and ruled as a caretaker until Rama’s return.
Forest Episodes
In the forest, Rama protected sages and people from demons. In Panchavati, the demoness Shurpanakha proposed marriage to Rama. Rejected, she tried to harm Sita, but Lakshmana disfigured her. Enraged, she went to her brother Ravana. With the help of the demon Maricha, Ravana tricked Rama and abducted Sita, carrying her to Lanka.
Search for Sita and Hanuman’s Valor
In their quest for Sita, Rama and Lakshmana befriended Sugriva and Hanuman. Rama helped Sugriva defeat his brother Bali and regain his kingdom. Then, the monkey army searched for Sita. Hanuman leapt across the ocean, reached Lanka, and found Sita in Ashoka grove. He gave her Rama’s ring, reassured her, and before returning, set Lanka ablaze with his fiery tail.
War in Lanka
Rama built a bridge across the ocean (Rama Setu) with the help of the vanara army and marched to Lanka. A great war followed. Ravana’s son Indrajit and his brother Kumbhakarna fought valiantly but were slain. Finally, Rama faced Ravana in battle. With a celestial weapon, Rama destroyed Ravana and ended his tyranny.
Sita’s Ordeal and Return
When the war ended, Bhagwan Ram accepted Maa Sita back from Agni Dev, for the Sita who had stayed in Lanka was only her shadow, while the real Sita had remained untouched by Ravana’s captivity. With this divine truth revealed, the three—Ram, Sita, and Lakshman—returned to Ayodhya, where Ram’s coronation was performed with unmatched splendor and joy.
Ram Rajya
Under Rama’s reign, the kingdom flourished. Justice prevailed, people lived without fear or sorrow, and peace and prosperity spread everywhere. This ideal era came to be known as Ram Rajya.
